Learning a language is unquestionably a transformation opportunity. In this context, the English language occupies a place in evidence because it is a lingua franca used by a multitude of people and it can be an important mean to access different cultures and knowledge. With that said, the area of the English language at Móbile School – Part-time – from Middle School organizes annually the English Cultural Fair, an event that grants multicultural experiences mediated by English. At each edition, a series of workshops are offered as a way to broaden their understanding and put the students in contact with different English speakers. In the last editions, we had experiences such as workshops of Arabian dance, the dabke, Irish Ring around the Rosie, the cèillis from Lindy Hop, American dance and afro-beat, Nigerian dances. Apart from the artistic and body experiences, these workshops brought the students closer to the cultures. The culinary was also present at this event, once it offers a unique sensorial and cultural experience. The students produce their own Masala recipe, a spice from India in the workshop Indian Spices and take part in the tea ritual, typical from the English culture, in the A Cup of Tea workshop. Other experiences such as the Egyptian pottery workshops, Arabian writing, theater and many other complements the group of activities that articulate the knowledge and skills and help the students in the construction and broadening of their cultural library. In terms of language learning, it guarantees the broadening of the vocabulary, communication strategies and develop the fluency and comprehension of orality in real context of the language use.
